Crafting this miniature model in a 1:12 scale requires the printable template, cardstock for the necessary thickness of each cutout, a crafting knife, and a strong paper glue.
The dimensions of the assembled model are approximately:
- Length: 9.1 cm (3.6 inches)
- Width: 3.3 cm (1.3 inches)
- Height: 9 cm (3.5 inches)
Instructions
In this tutorial, I'm demonstrating how to prepare the cut-outs using page 3 of the template. Repeat the same for page 1 and 2.
The PDF template is split into three pages. Print it on heavy printer paper to enhance the stability of the model.
Cut half of the rectangles from each page along the outer rectangle's line. Use the traced rectangle on cardstock from food packaging. Prepare approximately 2-3 pieces of cardstock for each cutout.
The final thickness of each piece should be approximately 1.5 mm or 1/16 inch.
Glue 2-3 pieces of cardstock together, and then adhere the rectangle from the printed template on top of the layers. Do this for each rectangle.
Trim each cut-out along the outer rectangle and glue it to the marked rectangle on the printed template.
Now you can cut the inner rectangle with all the layers of the cardstock and the paper from the template, and this will serve as the boards for constructing the bookcase. As the cut-outs may bend slightly, it's best to place a heavy book on top and leave it overnight to allow the glue between the layers to dry.
After cutting out all the rectangles, you should have 4 paper boards for the shelves, 2 boards for the side panels, and 6 boards for the shelf dividers. You can use acrylic paint to customize the color of the boards or add a wood effect.
I started by gluing the two side panels to the top and bottom shelf to make the frame of the bookcase.
Space the two bottom dividers evenly to create three cubes, and glue the first shelf on top of the two dividers. Repeat the process for the next shelf. Maintain a space of 2.8 cm or 1.1 inches between the dividers.
